Applied Mechanics as a general field of study has been in existence in India and abroad for several decades. Applied Mechanics interfaces the fundamental principles of physics and mathematics, and their application in diverse engineering disciplines. Various disciplines such as solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, biomedical engineering, design engineering and materials engineering have been explored under the broad theme of Applied Mechanics. INCAM 2013 is the culmination of efforts made by Applied Mechanics departments in the country, to provide a technical platform for discussion among researchers in the field. This conference is probably the first conference of its kind in the country and it is hoped that this conference will have sufficient enthusiasm and will pave way for many more such technical enclaves in future..
